Goa really has some of the best things to offer including great weather, scrumptious seafood, colourful atmosphere and glamorous beaches.

2) Explore both the North as well as South of Goa

Both North and South Goa have their own appeal. It is highly recommended to explore both these regions as they have plenty to offer visitors. Both have their own beauty and offer many other attractions other then beaches. There is so much distinction that even the spoken local language (Konkani) sounds different. The North Goans say the south Goan’s dialect sounds like they are singing. Whereas the South Goan claim that North Goan’s Konkani is rather harsh and somewhat rude. You can say North Goa is for party animals, while South Goa is for solitude seekers. Both the places are must to visit when you are in Goa and you want to explore.

3) Explore on a two-wheeler & carry on driving license

Exploring Goa on a rented scooter is the best and the most affordable option. After all the traditional footpaths and meandering roads are built for this. Goa offers you the very enticing option of renting a bike and getting around. Self-riding bike rentals offer you the freedom to go where you choose, when you choose. Please make sure you carry your driver’s license because there are many check points. While driving you also need to see that you don’t break any traffic rules or disrespect the Goan traffic. Another important rule of thumb is to not drink and drive.

4) Packing Essentials

If you are in Goa then you are surely going to go to the beaches where it’s sun, sea and sand – so pack beachwear, flip-flops, crocs, hats, shades, sunscreen and lightweight clothes. Natural fabrics such as cotton are always good as they are more breathable. The evenings however, can get cooler, so don’t forget to pack a light jumper or cardigan. Don’t pack a lot of bling and jewellery. And do pack a set or two of formal clothes in case you decide to visit top-class restaurants and lounges. Also carry some conservative clothing for your temple and church visits. Add a sun hat and sunglasses to your list of things to take to Goa. Also carry a sun cream with a high SP factor.

5) Avoid carrying too much Cash

Popular places are often the targets of pickpockets and thefts so better not to carry too much of cash and avoid the misfortune. You can use an ATM which typically allows you to withdraw INR 10,000 per transaction but you could do several transactions at the same ATM normally up to INR 50,000 per day, depending on your limit. Check with your bank before leaving home. It’s advisable to carry a little cash as many of the shops or bars do not have the credit card machines.

6) Camera for the Photo Lovers

Make sure you remember to pack your camera and charger for your holiday snaps. A vacation to Goa also involves keeping your camera handy for the right moment to be captured in the right light. There are many places such as museums and the airport where photography may be restricted so before flashing your camera just look out for signs saying ‘No pictures’ or ‘Photography Restricted’. If there are sign boards saying ‘No Flash’, make sure to use camera without it.

7) Carry your swimwear/beachwear

When you are in Goa it’s more about beaches and it demands more of your time parading in swimwear rather than the actual clothes. Don’t forget to keep swimwear in your bag. As beachwear, cotton clothes are advised as these would help you beat the heat and humidity in Goa.

8) Try Goan Cuisine

Goan cuisine is a rich amalgamation of traditional Konkani ingredients and Portuguese cooking styles and recipes. Try out the various delicious dishes such as Chicken Cafreal, Goan Prawn Curry and Crab Xec Xec. On your trip to this enchanting beach state, do savour the Goan cuisine. Ensure that you experience the cuisine not only from the famous restaurants, but also from street side food trucks. They are a delight to your palates and often sell the tastiest food true to origin.

9) Keep yourself hydrated

Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day by sipping on water, coconut water, nimbu paani (lemon water) and fruit juices. Even if you are staying in a coastal town or village, the heat can sap your energy. Make sure that you at least carry a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated and enjoy your holidays in Goa

10) Try Feni

Feni is one of the most popular Indian alcoholic beverages. Trips to Goa are incomplete without sips of cashew feni on the beaches of Goa. It also has many health benefits too. Feni warms up the body and cleanses the respiratory system more effectively than cough syrups, at least that is what I am told and choosing to believe. It is made with the second or third distillation of the cashew fruit and is available throughout the year. Thank you GOA!
